The Open Handset Alliance has extended an invitation to Asus this week which I see as an extremely smart and important move if consummated.
Asus had effectively kicked off the recent economical ultra portable laptop market and could provide the true revolution in mobile phones by creating a Smart Phonetop.
This Smartop phone should form the bridge between ultra portable laptops and the current smartphones that I feel would be the true competitor for the iPhone which the HTC Dream G1 from T-Mobile will NOT.
In my opinion, the HTC G1 Dream is simply the initial foray for Android to undergo its teething as the aesthetics of the phone won’t wow you in comparison to the iPhone, but I feel that’s not the point, as it is geared toward programmers to have a relatively spartan platform to bang away as a testbed to create and improve upon for future generations.
Today on the My TMobile page you can see the G1 being advertised and if you look at the image file name you see KILA referenced – “kila%20welcome%20tout.GIF”
KILA I believe is in reference to the internal naming of the G1 as the iPhone KILA, of which I do not see happening.
These future generations which T-Mobile has already termed G2, G3, G4, and G5, in my opinion, will be the aesthetically pleasing powerful phone, music player, smartop that will be the “kila” of the iPhone and allow people to easily browse and search online 24/7 – This is the true dream for Google.
