The Android community has become a natural conduit for news. There are not only multiple manufacturers creating many different devices, but also a fluid operating system and thousands of applications. All of this means more than a fair share of updates. Sometimes we get lucky and receive a few connected updates that create a bigger story. That’s what we’re seeing right now from Motorola.
This morning Droid Life brought us an excellent bit of news. Verizon is prepping marketing material for its next two Motorola devices, the Droid 2 (D2) and the Droid X. While we know plenty about these devices, the one thing we’ve been waiting to hear about is processor speed. In glorious fashion, the scripts for Verizon’s commercials reveal this. The Droid 2 will feature a 1GHz processor.
The commercial scripts for both the Droid 2 and Droid X are worth a look, so make sure to click through to Droid Life to check out the details. We’re still waiting on an official announcement, but after seeing these scripts I think it’s safe to say that we’re somewhere close. Yet that’s not the most exciting part of the Motorola saga. While people will certainly look forward to the Droid 2 and Droid X, it might be worth saving some of that enthusiasm for a Motorola release that should come later this year. To hold you over, here’s a picture of the Droid X against the HTC EVO and the iPhone.

Droid Life also picked up on a talk given by Motorola CEO Sanjay Jha. Speaking to the Executives Club of Chicago, he seemed quite optimistic about his company’s smartphone, and specifically Android, future. The biggest takeaway: an Android with a 2GHz processor. By itself that might not be huge news — after all, most manufacturers will seek that 2GHz speed eventually. The difference between Motorola and everyone else, however, is that Moto plans to release a device this fast before the end of 2010.
In case you haven’t already hit the roof while jumping for joy:
…this new phone is intended to incorporate everything that is technologically possible in a smartphone today. It will be based on Android, and include, like the iPhone 4, a gyroscope and add an Nvidia Tegra-based graphics processor with full Flash 10.1 hardware acceleration…
Give me that device with some Gingerbread and I think we can call it a day. It wasn’t long ago that Motorola was having all sorts of problems with its mobile phones unit. Glad to see they’re working with Android to make some of the sexiest devices out there.
